“Briefly Seen: New York Street Life” by Harvey Stein: Book launch and signing.

Briefly Seen: New York Street Life is the final installment of a trilogy by Harvey Stein, following Coney Island 40 Years and Harlem Street Portraits. Using a myriad of techniques, (including double exposure, low angle flash, skewed perspectives, and more), Stein seeks to “capture up close the theater of the everyday as it plays out on the streets” by photographing crowds in two of New York City’s most densely-packed neighborhoods, Downtown and Midtown Manhattan. The book contains 172 black and white photographs taken between the years 1974 and 2014.
Published by Schiffer Books, Briefly Seen is available in local bookstores, as well as through Amazon and www.schifferbooks.com.
To coincide with the launch of Briefly Seen, Rizzoli bookstore in Manhattan will be hosting a book signing and conversation between Harvey Stein and Marilyn Kushner, photo curator at the New York Historical Society, on Monday, November 16th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. For more details, click here.
