Step back in time and see a darkroom that dates back to the 1840s…

Story goes that Fortune Joseph Petoit-Groffier’s studio and darkroom were sealed off in an unused part of his estate and later discovered in pristine condition.  It is the oldest known intact lab, with some chemistry bottles dating back to 1840 – ’41.

This article appears on the website of Maison Nicephore Niepce, a National Heritage Site in France preserved by the Photography School Speos.  The Maison is where Niepce took the first documented photograph and is open to the public from July 1st through August 31st.  Click here for more information.
