Celebration of the life of photographer David P. Gilkey in Detroit on July 30th

The Documenting DETROIT Lecture Series and Open House at the Red Bull House of Art will be hosting a celebration of the life and career of former Detroit Free Press and National Public Radio photographer David P. Gilkey on July 30th.

Killed on June 5th while traveling with an Afghan army unit, Gilkey was an award-winning photojournalist best known for his conflict photography.

In a discussion moderated by Kathy Kieliszewski (Detroit Free Press Visuals Director), Nancy Andrews, Joe Swickard (both former Detroit Free Press,) and Kainaz Amaria (former NPR) will present David’s work and talk about the importance of photojournalism today.
