Intro to Film Photography
An in-person workshop with Aaron Cohen
Saturday, August 29
10 am - 5 pm
(1 hour lunch break)
Film photography requires only two basic tools: a camera and a roll of film. This intensive, one-day workshop is designed for beginning students with no prior experience with film photography, as well as digital photographers looking to explore analog processes. We will cover the fundamentals of shooting with manual 35mm film cameras before heading out on a photo walk exploring the nearby neighborhoods in Fishtown. Afterward, we will learn how to develop black and white film with tanks, reels, and chemistry. By the end of the course, students will have the knowledge they will need to continue their journeys in film photography. Students may bring their own camera or borrow a camera for the duration of the workshop.
Students are asked to bring a roll of 35mm Ilford HP5+ black and white film, and The Halide Project will provide the necessary chemistry and equipment.
