Offered in conjunction with the 20/20 Photo Festival, this one-day workshop explores the unique process of creating cyanotype prints on wood surfaces.

Because the workshop builds on foundational cyanotype techniques, prior experience printing cyanotypes on paper is strongly recommended. Participants are also encouraged to bring a selection of their cyanotype prints to share during the opening discussion.

Wood rounds, panels, and other workshop materials will be provided by The Halide Project. If you have your own wood surfaces that you would like to prepare for future printing, you are welcome to bring them for guidance on surface preparation. However, printing on personal wood surfaces will take place outside of the workshop session.

After registering, participants will receive a materials list outlining the 2D and 3D items to bring. The workshop fee also includes two inkjet negatives made from your digital files, which will be prepared in advance by The Halide Project. Instructions for sending files will be sent in the same email as the materials list.

Instructor bio:

Laurie Beck Peterson (b. 1962) is a US based artist specializing in 19th century photographic processes. Her work exploring themes of impermanence and the growth and decay of the natural world. Her most recent work utilizes sustainable plant-based printing methods.

Currently, Laurie teaches her research specialty of the contemporary use of historical photo processes at Tyler School of Art + Architecture. Philadelphia, PA. Her work is exhibited nationally and internationally and is included in many private and public collections. Most recently she was chosen to exhibit at The Royal Photographic Society in Bristol, UK, as part of IPE 164, on view beginning in 2023. She is included in the 2021 selection of Rfotofolio photographers and two bodies of work were awarded at the 15th Annual Julia Margaret Cameron Awards on view in 2021 at FotoNostrum in Barcelona.
